SKIN CANCER

SKIN CANCER DETECTION

What to Expect: Step-by-Step

Step 1: Book an Appointment

Your journey begins by booking a consultation with one of our experienced doctors. A standard consultation includes assessment of 1–2 moles or lesions. If you have multiple areas of concern or would like a more comprehensive assessment, a full-body mole screening is recommended.

Step 2: Clinical Assessment

During your appointment, our doctor will carefully examine your moles or lesions and assess whether any features are concerning.

Step 3: Advice and Next Steps

If a mole or lesion requires further investigation, your doctor will discuss the next steps with you. This most commonly involves a biopsy, which allows us to identify exactly what we are dealing with.

Step 4: Results, Reassurance, and Follow-Up

Once biopsy results are available, you will be contacted by a member of our team. If the results are benign, no further visits will be required at that time, although we do recommend annual skin checks to monitor for any future changes. If the biopsy indicates that treatment is required, a follow-up appointment will be arranged, during which your doctor will clearly explain the findings and discuss the most appropriate treatment options with you.

Step 5: Treatment or Referral if Required

If the biopsy indicates that treatment is required, your doctor will outline a personalised treatment plan. Where appropriate, treatment can be carried out in-house at the clinic. If specialist care is needed, we will arrange a timely referral, ensuring you receive the most appropriate care. Early assessment is always recommended, as detecting skin changes early greatly improves outcomes and peace of mind.

WARNING SIGNS TO LOOK FOR

A changing mole

Any mole that changes in size, shape, colour, or texture, or starts to itch, bleed, or crust, should be checked by a doctor.

A new or unusual lesion

A new spot, lump, or sore that appears suddenly and does not heal over several weeks can be a warning sign.
