tattoo removal

Tattoo Removal

Tattoo removal at The Adare Clinic is performed using advanced medical laser technology designed to safely fade and clear unwanted ink. Whether your goal is full removal or lightening a tattoo for future cover-up work, our practitioners tailor treatment to the tattoo’s colour, age, depth and skin type. All sessions are conducted in a controlled medical environment to ensure both safety and effective outcomes.

What we treat

Laser tattoo removal can improve unwanted or outdated tattoos, including both amateur and professional work. It is particularly effective on black, blue and other darker pigments, though certain coloured inks may also respond depending on their composition. Treatment can also be used to partially fade a tattoo in preparation for a cover-up. Your doctor will assess your tattoo and skin type to determine suitability and expected outcomes.

Expected Results

Tattoo removal is a gradual process, with results influenced by factors such as ink colour and density, depth of placement, the age of the tattoo and your individual skin response. Black and darker pigments usually fade most effectively. A series of sessions spaced several weeks apart is required to allow your body time to break down and clear the pigment between treatments. While some tattoos may fully clear, others will lighten significantly, making them easier to cover up if desired.

Medical Safety

Tattoo removal lasers must be operated by trained professionals.

At The Adare Clinic, all treatments are carried out with strict medical protocols, appropriate wavelength selection and careful skin assessment to minimise risk and support safe healing.

what to expect during your treatment

assessment

Your treatment begins with a detailed consultation where your practitioner examines the tattoo’s colour, depth, density and overall age. The size and location of the tattoo are reviewed, along with your skin type and medical history, to ensure the treatment is both safe and suitable. We also discuss your goals, whether you are aiming for complete removal or simply lightening the tattoo for a future cover-up. This assessment allows us to determine the appropriate laser settings and the number of sessions likely required.

The Treatment

During treatment, a medical-grade laser delivers short, controlled pulses of energy into the skin. These pulses target the tattoo pigment, breaking it into smaller particles that the body can gradually clear through natural processes. You may feel brief, sharp sensations similar to the snap of an elastic band. Cooling measures are applied throughout to enhance comfort, and treatment times vary from a few minutes to longer sessions depending on the tattoo’s size and complexity.

Recovery & Aftercare

Immediately after treatment, the tattooed area may appear white or “frosted,” followed by temporary redness or mild swelling. These reactions are expected and settle as the skin begins to heal. Your practitioner will provide specific aftercare instructions, including how to keep the area clean, when to resume normal activities, and how to protect the skin from irritation or infection. Sun exposure should be avoided while the area heals, and patients should refrain from swimming and heat-based activities for a short period.
