What is Profhilo?
Unlike anti-wrinkle injections and Dermal filler treatments, Profhilo stimulates collagen and elastin, attracting water into the deeper layers of the skin. It is the newest generation of skin boosters but as a stabilised product the activity on dermal cells will last longer than a non-stabilised gel. It is the first BDDE-free stabilised injectable hyaluronic acid (HA)_based product for treating skin laxity or crepey skin.
How does Profhilo work?
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in our skin, joints and connective tissue. The role of Hyaluronic acid is to help bind moisture to the skin and also help in the production of collagen and elastin.
As we age, the skin’s natural ability to protect from UV damage and pollution and to restore moisture starts to fail. We are no longer able to produce collagen naturally from late 20’s on and so the first signs of ageing; fine lines and wrinkles, dyspigmentstion start to show. From 30-40 years old this becomes more pronounced and from age 50 (especially in women with menopause and the oestradiol levels plummeting) the skin becomes dry and unattractive looking.
Profhilo is not a dermal filler neither is it a toxin, it is simply to restore the moisture levels in the skin. It is especially useful in difficult to treat areas like the back of the hands or neck where lasers and deeper chemical peels and dermal fillers are much more difficult to use safely. At the Adare Clinic, we use Profhilo treatments in addition to toxins, dermal fillers, lasers and Secret RF to improve skin quality but it is a very useful addition to our already large range of treatments. It is also an excellent treatment for post-menopausal women who are afraid of using toxins and dermal fillers and with a proper maintenance programme gives excellent, very natural results.
Who is Profhilo for?
Older women and men with visible skin laxity or crepey skin. Many post-menopausal women will greatly benefit from this treatment. It can be used on the Face, Neck and Decolletage. It is also used in the Abdominal skin post-pregnancy or post severe weight loss leaving loose skin. It is used very successfully for “bingo wings” the loose crepey skin older women get in the upper arms.
Do I need time off work?
The treatments are relatively painless. Ice packs can be used if necessary. There can be small red bumps that persist for 24 hours. There can be some bruising because a small needle is being used. That depends on age (poor collagen) and whether blood thinners are being used. Time off work would rarely be necessary.
