Keloids

Anything that can cause a scar can cause a keloid. This includes being burned, tattooed, cut (accidentally or after surgery) or having acne. Asian or African skin is much more prone to keloid scarring, also Caucasian patient on anabolic steroids are at increased risk, for example body builders in a gym.

Pulsed dye laser to improve the red/purple discolouration and softens the scar. Silicone gel is sometimes recommended.
A keloid scar
may be cut out by your surgeon but there is a high risk of recurrence and the recurrent scar might be worse again so this has to be taken into consideration before any decision is made.
